Re: Who are you ?

Hello!  You know me as chocolatte.  I'm a spinner who lives in the US.  I'm still a Philippine citizen, but I'm married to an American and I work in Washington, DC.  I live in Maryland, which is about 20 km away from Washington.

My town is called Cabin John.  It is very small and surrounded by a forest that is a national park.  We live along a canal and the famous Potomac River.  Click here and you will see photos taken by my husband, Larry.  He is a lawyer, 55 years old and just recently retired.  He likes to ride his scooter and kickbike which you will also see in the photos.

We live in a town home community.  We have a small garden, but we are surrounded by a communal property that belongs to all the homeowners.  You can see the view from our backyard here.

When I turn 55 in 2009, I will also retire.  We will sell our house and move to Queenstown in New Zealand.  I would like to start a business like Sandrine's and Florence's.  Maybe I will spin and dye and sell to yarn stores and, then on weekends, I will sell at the craft markets.

In Queenstown we have a house, but no furniture yet.  The house is being rented right now.  We used to have a two-bedroom furnished apartment where we spent vacations, but we had to sell it to get a bigger place.  We need a big place because I now have five spinning wheels (rouets).  I call them "my girls": Gem, Suzie, Joy, Victoria and S45.  smile  Of course, my favorites are Gem and Suzie.

Too small for five wheels.

Re: Who are you ?

Sandrine, I'm curious about Louet S10 with double treadle, but I don't really need it.  I have an order for a Little Grace wheel.  However, the New Zealand maker, Mike Keeves, cannot start making it until September.  He has a lot of orders.  When he finishes, he will put a metal plate on it with the name of the spinner.  I don't want my name on it because I may eventually sell it.

I also asked Mike if he could paint it magenta since the wheel is full of the heart motif.  He said he is too old to consider painting his wheel other than a dark or natural finish.  happy8km  He said he could ship it without a finish and I could color it as I wish.  I was inspired by these Louet wheels.  I remember you painted yours, too.

Anyway, I'm willing to sell all my other wheels and just keep Gem and Suzie, but sometimes, I feel I need to change wheels so my spinning skill is not limited to one kind of wheel.  As you may notice, Victoria is different and so is the S45.  However, the Gem and the Suzie behave the same way.

By the way, the Grace wheel looks like it's a double treadle, but it's actually only single treadle.

Re: Who are you ?

Hi there,

I am Andrew Poad and Therese (Chocolatte) recommended this forum to me. I was not sure of the best place to start writing so this seemed good to me.

I am 35 and work for Majacraft so obviously am quite interested in spinning. :-)

I am really enjoying reading your letters and it is nice to hear from spinners and craftspeople in a different part of the world to me.

Best wishes
Andy

Re: Who are you ?

Hi, Andy!  Glad to have you here.

Natasha Fialkov just joined as well!  Come on, Natasha, introduce yourself.  She'd like to come to the retreat and teach her brand of fantasy yarns.

Re: Who are you ?

Mic, Andy is in New Zealand wink smile

Here is the french translation of Andy's message :

Andy a écrit:

I am 35 and work for Majacraft so obviously am quite interested in spinning. :-)

J'apprécie beaucoup de vous lire, et c'est bien agréable d'avoir des nouvelles de fileurs et d'artisants de différents endroits du monde pour moi.

Amicalement
Andy
